Ella Fitzgerald b. (25 April 1917) Newport News, VA; d. 1996. “Queen of Jazz.”  Spent most of her childhood in Yonkers, NY. Bing Crosby: “Man, woman or child, Ellas is the greatest.”

Artemis: Renee Rosnes (piano), Anat Cohen (clarinet), Melissa Aldana (tenor sax), Ingrid Jensen (trumpet), Noriko Ueda (bass), Allison Millier (drums), Cecile McLorin Salvant (vocals)

Anita O’Day – b. 18 October 1919 (Chicago, IL); d. 2006. “The Jezebel of Jazz.”

Jocelyn Gould – Canadian guitarists, whose 2020 debut album, Elegant Traveler, was awarded a Juno for Jazz Album of the Year.

Amina Figarova – b. 1964 (Baku, Azerbaijan). Studied folk music and became interested in jazz.

Madeleine Peyroux – b. 1974 (Athens, GA). Moved to Paris when she was 13 and began singing with street musicians in the Latin Quarter.
