Playlist and Notes 4 October 2022
On this week’s show we listed to some blues song about storms and floods from the past and our final installment of Latin music in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. But first we start with music about autumn, starting with Pittsburgh native Ahmad Jamal’s rendition of “Autumn Leaves.” In our second segment, in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Ian, we have a listen to how blues songs have captured the heartache and frustration of storms and floods from the past, including Hurricane Katrina and the Mississippi Flood of 1927. It is worth mentioning that Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" is a cover of a song about the Great Flood of 1927 on the Mississippi River written and recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. Finally, we have three Latin Jazz songs to round out our tribute for Hispanic Heritage Month 2022.
